Boca Shirt: French Player’s Unexpected Game | Olé

These days a French scorer appeared in a snack with a Boca shirt on. And the image immediately went viral: This is André-Pierre Gignac, the idol of Tigres, who showed up in the city of Monterrey with Juan Román Riquelme’s #10.

It was punctually in a “cascarita”, as the Mexicans call it, in the Benarami amateur club, days after Tigres’ defeat against Toluca on penalties in the Liga MX final.

Although Gignac’s affinity for Xeneize is nothing new: A few years ago, in an interview with Gran Reforma, he even revealed that he had been wanted by Boca.

The time Gignac was wanted by Boca

It happened in 2019, with Daniel Angelici as president and Nicolás Burdisso as manager. “Boca’s offer was very serious. I didn’t want to disrespect Boca, because it is a great club and I love that club. But I had not scored my 105th goal. Furthermore, I said in several interviews that I wanted to retire at Tigres,” told at that time.

“They made the effort to get my contract. I was going to earn the same as here, so I didn’t lose anything. It was perfect, but I have said several times that I wanted to finish my career at Tigres,” señalo

And until now he has always kept his word. He arrived at Tigres in 2015 and never left. He is, in fact, the top scorer in the club’s history with 221 goals. And now, at 40 years old, already in the final stretch of his career, his retirement is getting closer and closer, although, for now, it is unknown when he will hang up his boots.
