Blüger Injury Update: NHL Return After Christmas

Vancouver “Canucks” forward Teodors Blügers has participated in only two games this season due to an injury, and due to the delay in his recovery, the Latvian is not expected to return to the field until Christmas, the head coach of the National Hockey League (NHL) club, Adam Foot, said on Monday.

Due to a lower body injury, Blügers has not played since October 19, but he was not initially expected to undergo such a long treatment. In mid-November, Blügers resumed skating, but soon aggravated the injury, which will prolong the recovery of the 31-year-old hockey player in December. Foote said Blüger’s recovery was back to basics.

“Hopefully, right after Christmas,” Foote outlined the likely timing of Bluger’s return. “What happened some time ago to him [Bļugeru] was basically back to square one. Really disappointing for him. It was so weird [savainojumu izraisījusi] movement, and I’ve hardly ever had one as a player. Coincidence or not, it’s very bad because we miss him.”

Bļugers has scored one goal in two NHL games this season, and the recovery of the experienced striker is also very important for the Latvian national team, which will participate in the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic Games tournament in February.

Due to the injury, Blügers did not participate in the first four games of the season either. In his NHL career, Blügers has accumulated 153 points with 50 goals and 103 assists in 420 games with Pittsburgh “Penguins”, Vegas “Golden Knights” and “Canucks”.

The Canucks have lost eight of their last 10 games and are in last place in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. Six more games are scheduled for the Vancouver team until Christmas – if Blüger’s return were to take place immediately after the holiday, he could go on the field on December 27, when the Canucks host the San Jose Sharks at home.
