Biopic Casting: Marvel Star Replaced by Horror Actor – Kino News

The biopic “48 Hours In Vegas” revolves around an infamous episode in the life of basketball superstar Dennis Rodman: a trip to Las Vegas during the 1998 NBA Finals. Now a new leading actor has been found for the project.

Jonathan Majors was once on the verge of becoming one of the biggest Hollywood stars ever, but after his meteoric rise with films like “The Last Black Man In San Francisco” and “Da 5 Bloods” or the HBO series “Lovecraft Country” as well as his role as the designated new villain Kang in the MCU, an equally rapid fall followed:

Majors was found guilty in court on two of four counts of assault and domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend and was subsequently dropped not only by Marvel, but also by (almost) every other studio, filmmaker and talent agency. The affected projects also included the planned biopic “48 Hours In Vegas“ about basketball superstar Dennis Rodman. However, a replacement for Jonathan Majors has now been found.

LaKeith Stanfield to star in ’48 Hours In Vegas’

Like the well-connected Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider in his newsletter The InSneider reported, LaKeith Stanfield will take on the role of Dennis Rodman in “48 Hours In Vegas”. This means that the undoubtedly extremely talented Jonathan Majors is being replaced by a no less talented actor colleague who was seen in, among other things, “Atlanta”, the first “Knives Out” and “Get Out” – one of the best horror films of recent years.

As Jeff Sneider continues to report, A director was also found for “48 Hours In Vegas”: Rick Famuyiwa will direct the film and also revise the script again. Famuyiwa made his breakthrough in 2015 with the Sundance hit “Dope,” but in recent years has mostly directed episodes of series including “The Mandalorian” and “Ahsoka.” It is his first major film project in several years.

As I said, “48 Hours In Vegas” is about NBA superstar Dennis Rodman, but the focus here isn’t necessarily on basketball: Rather, the film is about an infamous episode from the basketball enfant-terrible’s life, which is rich in such episodes.

During the NBA Finals in 1998, Rodman simply disappeared without a trace and instead went on a wild trip to Las Vegas with an assistant coach from the Chicago Bulls, for whom Rodman was playing at the time. The film will revolve around the friendship between the star player and the assistant coach.

It is not yet known when “48 Hours In Vegas” will be released. However, we are guessing 2027. Another upcoming project with LaKeith Stanfield is the action thriller “FAST” from “Yellowstone” maker Taylor Sheridan. You can find out more about it in this article:
