[서울=뉴시스]Reporter Lee Jae-hoon = Grammy Award-winning American pop star Beyoncé has become the fifth musician in the world to become a billionaire.
According to Forbes, an American economic magazine, on the 29th (local time), he joined the ranks of billionaires thanks to the success of the ‘Cowboy Carter’ tour, which earned more than $400 million (about 572.7 billion won) in ticket sales and more than $50 million (about 71.5 billion won) in merchandise sales.
Her previous world tour, ‘Renaissance’, grossed approximately $579 million (828.7 billion won).
Beyoncé’s husband, American hip-hop godfather Jay-Z, was the first musician to be named to the Forbes billionaires list in 2019. Afterwards, Barbadian pop star Rihanna, American singer Bruce Springsteen, and American pop superstar Taylor Swift, who formed a competitive structure with Beyoncé at the Grammy Awards, also rose to the ranks of billionaires.
Beyoncé ran several businesses, including hair care brand Cécred, whiskey brand SirDavis, and clothing brand Ivy Park. However, according to Forbes, most of her personal wealth comes from her music career: revenue from album sales and worldwide touring.
Beyoncé established Parkwood Entertainment, a management and content production company, in 2010 and has been directly managing all artistic activities, including music, concerts, and documentaries.
The album ‘Cowboy Carter’, released last year, received rave reviews from critics and earned Beyoncé her first Grammy Award for Album of the Year. The tour that followed the album’s release became the highest-grossing music tour in the world this year. The performance, which lasted three hours each episode, featured special appearances by her husband, children, and former members of the girl group Destiny’s Child, of which Beyoncé was a member.
Forbes noted, “There is no entertainment business as profitable as a concert by a musician who can sell out a stadium.”
350 staff members were mobilized for Beyonce’s concert tour. 100 large trucks’ worth of equipment were used, and eight 747 cargo planes were needed for intercity movement.
Beyonce debuted as a member of Destiny’s Child and began her solo career in the early 2000s. He is the artist with the most awards and the most nominations in the history of the Grammy Awards. In addition, she earned about $50 million (approximately 71.5 billion won) in fees from last year’s NFL Christmas game halftime show ‘Beyoncé Ball’ and approximately $10 million (approximately 14.3 billion won) in fees from a Levi’s commercial.
The British Guardian commented, “Beyonce sang in ‘Pure/Honey’, ‘It would take a billion dollars to look this beautiful / It looks easy because she has it all,’ but now she has officially got it all.”
