Benfica Training: World Champion Preps for Napoli Clash

José Neto is the big news in Benfica’s last training session before the home game against Napoli, scheduled for Wednesday, counting for the sixth round of the UEFA Champions League league phase. The 17-year-old left-back was called up by José Mourinho, less than two weeks after becoming under-17 world champion with the Quinas team.

José Neto was one of the Portuguese team’s standout units, scoring four goals and two assists in eight games in Qatar, after being part of the team that became European champions in June.

The good global performances precipitated promotion to the B team, whose training sessions last week. José Neto scored 29′ in the Reds’ reception to Oliveirense (2-0), on Saturday, in the debut for Nélson Veríssimo’s men.

Samuel Dahl has been the Reds’ defensive left flank, while Rafael Obrador has not yet been used by José Mourinho.

Rodrigo Rêgo also took part in the session led by José Mourinho, whose first 15 minutes were open to the media, due to the torrential rain. Benfica’s players fought against the weather conditions as best they could to continue preparing for a decisive game for the Reds in the UEFA Champions League. After five rounds, the Eagles have just three points.

Central defender Gonçalo Oliveira trained with the under-19s, as he will be used in the final round of the UEFA Youth League league stage.

Lukebakio, Bruma, Nuno Félix and Alexander Bah continue to be handed over to the Reds’ medical department.
