Benfica: Teen Star Signs Pro Contract

Living his seventh season with Benfica and currently with the under-17s, Hugo Miguel Freire Gomes, a 16-year-old midfielder about to turn 17 (January 26), signed his first professional contract.

«Signing this first professional contract means that I worked hard to get here, and that my work is being valued. I thank my family, my friends, colleagues and coaches who have helped me this far. And we’re going for more,” the midfielder told BTV.

«I have given everything to achieve my goal, which is to reach the A team, but knowing that I still have many steps to take. Wearing the Benfica shirt is a source of pride for me”, guaranteed the 16-year-old athlete, who has played 10 games and scored 2 goals this season in the under-17 championship.

Hugo Gomes arrived at the Eagles in 2020/21, from AEF Faro, still in the under-12s, joining the Benfica Training and Training Center in Faro, before taking the step to Benfica Campus in 2021/22. He became national champion for beginners in 2023/24 and national youth champion in 2024/25, in the under-16s.
