Bears Relocation: Chicago to Indiana?

In the midst of a surprising and great season of the Chicago Bearswho are one step away from returning to the Playoffs, which they have not reached since the 2020 season, Hours of uncertainty arrive with a possible move in the coming years.

The Bears dream of having a new stadiumbut because it is not one of the priorities for the state of Illinois, Kevin Warren, president and CEO of the organization, acknowledged that they are exploring building it outside the state, putting Indiana on the radar.

“With two regular season home games remaining, we are focused on building a championship organization worthy of you. The same standard has guided our work on a new world-class stadium. We have been told directly by State leadership that our project will not be a priority in 2026despite the benefits it will bring to Illinois. Therefore, in addition to Arlington Park, we need to expand our search and critically evaluate opportunities throughout the Chicago region, including Northwest Indiana,” Warren’s letter states.

Indiana Governor Mike Braun responded to Bears’ letter and noted that “they recognize Indiana’s pro-business climate and I am ready to work with them to build a new stadium in northwest Indiana. This measure would provide a significant economic boost, create jobs and bring another top-notch franchise to the NFL to the state of Indiana. Let’s do it!”

A ‘slap’ to Chicago fans

The franchise has been in Chicago for more than 100 years, after moving to the city in 1921 from Decatur, Illinoisso a move by one of the founding teams of the NFL would be a “slap in the face to its fans,” according to a spokesman for Illinois Governor JB Pritzker.

“To suggest that the Bears will move to Indiana is a shocking slap in the face to all the beloved and loyal fans.” who have supported this franchise for generations. The governor is a Bears fan who has always wanted them to stay in Chicago,” the spokesperson said. “He has also said that ultimately they are a private company that makes their own decisions, but the governor has also been clear that the bottom line for any private business development should not be at the complete expense of the taxpayers.”
