BCL Asia Participation: Utsunomiya Brex Updates

FIBA (International Basketball Federation) has announced that the East Asia Super League (EASL) has been designated as a qualifying tournament for the FIBA Basketball Champions League Asia (BCL Asia).

Of the three teams participating in the EASL 2025-26 season, Brex, Ryukyu, and A-Tokyo, the club with the best record will qualify for BCL Asia 2026.
With this system change, competition in EASL will be directly linked to the right to participate in BCL Asia, making EASL an even more important international tournament than ever before, leading to the highest stage in Asia.

Brex will do their best to fight every match of the EASL 2025-26 season in order to win the right to compete on the Asian stage again.

The changes to the BCL Asia participation conditions and the method for determining participating clubs are as follows.

Regarding changes to BCL Asia participation conditions

Before change (until BCL Asia 2025): The most recent season’s B.LEAGUE winning club will represent Japan in BCL Asia.
After change (from BCL Asia 2026): Among the clubs participating in the most recent EASL season, the club with the best result in the same country will participate in BCL Asia.

*In the event of a tie, the decision will be based on goal difference. This change was decided by FIBA to allow clubs from each country sufficient time to prepare for international tournaments.
