Update, 5:58 p.m.: When looking at Sporting Lisbon’s lineup, there are two names in particular fans should keep in mind. On the one hand, 18-year-old João Simões, who is considered a great young hope, and on the other hand, Ousmane Diomande. The central defender plays for the Ivory Coast national team and is likely to meet some Bayern players again in the World Cup group phase at the latest.
Update, 5:38 p.m.: Bayern’s line-up is there – and, as expected, there are no big surprises in store. Manuel Neuer, Jonathan Tah, Serge Gnabry and Harry Kane return to the starting eleven. One thing that this starting eleven definitely says is that the Munich team takes their opponents from Lisbon very seriously.
FC Bayern starting lineup: Neuer – Laimer, Tah, Upamecano, Stanisic – Pavlovic, Kimmich – Olise, Karl, Gnabry – Kane
First report, December 9th, 5:17 p.m.: Munich – In the league, FC Bayern showed that they don’t let small setbacks bother them. After the confident win against VfB Stuttgart, the clash with Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League follows. While the Munich team had no problem with the rotation machine on, Sporting inevitably has to prove the depth of its bench.

The Portuguese have to do without several key players. The offensive players Pedro Gonçalves and Francisco Trincão as well as the injured Geovany Quenda are not available to coach Rui Borges. Of all people, 18-year-old João Simões is supposed to help. Against almost a full Bayern team, this will be the biggest test of maturity in the midfielder’s young career so far.

For Vincent Kompany’s team, however, it is important not to take the task ahead too lightly. Sports director Max Eberl took care to prevent this. He spoke to referee Tobias Stieler after the win against Stuttgart. Sporting is no stranger to the referee, as he has already refereed the Portuguese once this season.
And Stieler confirmed Eberl’s image that he had already formed of the Portuguese champions up to this point: “He has already said that they are a very, very good team.” And yet a stumble by Munich would be a surprise. At least the regulars who were recently rested will probably return to the starting line-up. These include Manuel Neuer, Jonathan Tah, Serge Gnabry and Harry Kane, who acted as a noble joker against VfB – only Luis Díaz is missing.
With his statements before the game, Kompany’s counterpart at least didn’t give his own supporters great hopes that they would be able to stop the Munich stars so easily. This is how you play against the “best team in Europe”. As a solution, he announced a much more defensive approach than is usually his team’s style. The fans in front of the TV or streaming devices can hope for a special talent.
João Simões could provide one or two offensive sparks at Sporting Lisbon. The central midfielder is the new big hope for young talent in the Portuguese ranks. “We’re very calm about the failures. We’re not afraid,” said Simões, not at all reserved before the game: “It’s very good to play against the best in Europe. I can learn a lot from that.” (sch)
