On January 8 next year, the best athletes of 2025 will be honored at a solemn ceremony “Award of the Year in Athletics”. The list of candidates also includes representatives of Bauska region, you can vote for them on the portal lsm.lv until December 14.
This time, the list of names of athletes connected with Bauska region is quite a lot. In the U18 age group, the pole vaulter from Bauska, Nikola Trasūne, who won 7th place at the European Youth Olympic Festival this year, was nominated. For men in this age group, the all-rounder Ernests Lešinskis from Vecumniekis is on the list of candidates – the multiple Latvian champion managed to win the fourth place at the European Youth Olympic Festival this year and was very close to a medal.
In the next U20 age group, the list of candidates includes this year’s biggest surprise – Adriana Krūzmane from Iecava. The list of achievements is long – third place in the European U20 triple jump championship with 13.62 meters, which is also a Latvian U20 record, eighth place in the European team triple jump championship, participation in relay races, long jump, and finally in the 4×100 meter races, the Latvian U20 and U23 age group record was achieved – 45.86 seconds. A. Kruzmane deserves to win in this group also in the vote. She was also nominated in the “Track and Field Athlete of the Year” nomination.
Among the candidates in the men’s U20 age group is Atvars Ernests Paļulis from Iasli, who took tenth place in the European U20 Championship in the decathlon. Candidates in the U23 age group include Andris Skadiņš, who qualified for the European U23 Championship in the decathlon.
Among the men in the “Athlete of the Year” nomination is the sprinter Raivo Saulkrezis, the coach of the Riga sports school “Arkādija”, who grew up and trained at the Children’s and Youth Sports School of the Bauska region. He became one of the biggest surprises in Latvian athletics this year, as he was one of the four Latvian athletes who were able to qualify for the World Championships.
