The New York Mets are in the process of adding right-handed reliever Mike Baumann, according to a report published this Wednesday by Jon Heyman in the New York Post.
Baumann, 30, has just pitched in the 2025 season with the Tokyo Yakult Swallows of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). In Japan he participated in 16 games, accumulating 15 innings, with a record of 0-2, ERA of 4.20 and one hold. He allowed eight runs, seven of them earned, on 17 hits, including three home runs, in addition to 19 strikeouts and 12 walks.
His most recent experience in the Major Leagues dates back to 2024, a campaign in which he had a tour of the Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners, San Francisco Giants and Miami Marlins. In total, he worked 58.1 innings spread over 57 appearances, with a record of 3-1, ERA of 5.55 and WHIP of 1.49.
The Marlins claimed him off waivers from the Angels on August 25, 2024. With Miami, Baumann posted a 6.59 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP in 13.2 innings pitched over 11 games.
Before that season, the right-hander had spent most of his career with the Orioles, an organization that designated him for assignment on May 18, 2024 and traded him four days later, along with catcher Michael Pérez, to Seattle, in exchange for catcher Blake Hunt.
Baumann’s best year in MLB was 2023, his last full season with Baltimore, when he posted a remarkable 10-1 record, with a 3.76 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 64.2 innings spread over 60 reliefs.
He debuted in the Major Leagues on September 7, 2021, when he pitched 3.2 innings of relief, allowed one unearned run and scored the victory in the Orioles’ 7-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals.
Baumann was selected by Baltimore in the third round of the 2017 Draft, with the 98th overall pick, out of Jacksonville University.
