Bastia-Red Star: Fan Detained After Smoke Bomb Incident | Ligue 2 Football News

A man suspected of having thrown a smoke bomb at an Ile-de-France player during the football match between SC Bastia and Red Star, on December 5 during the 16th day of Ligue 2, was placed in pre-trial detention on Thursday, AFP learned on Friday from the Bastia prosecutor’s office.

Aged around thirty, he will be tried immediately on Monday before the Bastia criminal court, said the prosecution, confirming information from Corse-Matin.

He had previously been placed in police custody as part of an investigation opened by the Bastia public prosecutor’s office for “intentional violence with a weapon”. He was then placed in pre-trial detention the same day in the Borgo remand center (Haute-Corse).

The pyrotechnic device lit from the East stand, that of the ultras’ kop, had hit Bradley Danger, a player from the Ile-de-France region, in the arm. An incident which led to the final interruption of the match, in the 56th minute of play when the score was 0-0.

The match was definitively stopped after the incident

The Sporting club of Bastia, which celebrated its 120th anniversary on December 5, reacted on the evening of the incident by denouncing the “completely unconscious gesture of a spectator”, adding that the “club was already actively working on the identification of this person and will take all necessary measures in this matter”.

The disciplinary committee of the Professional Football League met Wednesday evening to look into this matter. The case has been placed under investigation. The decision is expected on December 22.
