Basketball News & Culture – Forofos Magazine

40 years ago a group of elderly friends from Burgos who were united by basketball above all else, promoted the group Grandparents Burgos Team hand in hand with one of them, Carlos Perez, the one who had the great idea. Already retired from federated basketball that they had all played in teams like the CB Gromber, CB Miraflores o el CB Tizona In its first stage, their goal was to continue meeting at least once a week to maintain their routine of so many years around a ball and two hoops, and thus continue strengthening their friendship.

Four decades later, few remain from those early years, but those who have followed in his footsteps since then gathered again this Sunday at the José Luis Talamillo Sports Center to celebrate their traditional Christmas Party that will live a second episode next January 4.

More than 30 male and female players, some who are already grandparents and several accompanied by their childrenwho are taking over and are active in the lower categories of San Pablo and Tizona, They enjoyed for two hours spread over six teams that each one played five games in the three tracks of the pavilion.

The enthusiasm overcame the occasional cramp and allowed all of them to give free rein to their great hobby, practicing sports and continue keeping alive the flame that 40 years later still looks just as intense. In fact, the vast majority play their three weekly games (Monday, Wednesday and Sunday) and weekly strengthen their union around a table in the Pardo Restaurantin front of the Río Vena Civic Center.
