Honor for influential personalities in the club’s history.
(rr) As part of the celebrations for the 40th anniversary of the Schanzer Sport Club ’85 Ingolstadt, three extraordinary personalities were honored for their long-standing commitment and services to the sport of baseball in Ingolstadt. The general meeting unanimously elected Martin Miller, Frank Beuler and Stefan Pößl as honorary members.
Martin Miller, founding board member and influential official, not only headed the club in its early years, but also shaped both the German and European baseball associations as president. He also set important accents for the development of the sport in the executive board of the World Baseball Association. Miller was inducted into the German Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001.
Frank Beuler brought valuable know-how from the USA to Ingolstadt in 1985 and, together with Miller, formed the club’s first board duo. As a player-coach, he led the Schanzer into the 2nd Bundesliga and won the runner-up there.
Stefan Pößl, the first Ingolstadt national player, took part as a regular player in the European Championships in Paris, Stockholm and Parma. After moving to Cologne, he remained loyal to top-class sport and played, among others, for the Cardinals and the Bonn Capitals in the Baseball Bundesliga.
Exactly 40 years after the founding meeting of the Schanzer Sport Club ’85 Ingolstadt, founding members, former board members and numerous companions gathered for the evening of honor. The three honorees enriched the event with anecdotes from the early days and recalled the development of baseball in the region.
In addition to the current board member Georg von Großmann and Matthias Rucker, department head of TV 1861 Ingolstadt, greetings were also given by Jochen Bender, president of the Bavarian Baseball Association. The honoring of the three personalities underlines the important role of commitment and passion in the success and continuity of the club.
