Bring Change to Bring Change
It’s been about two years since I picked up Badminton as a sport, and end up playing 2-3 days on an average per week. Despite so many hours playing the sport, I still not so humbly think I am a weak player, and don’t really have the inherent skillset to be great at the game.
Today however, while I was playing and losing a few matches, tables did turn and I won a couple of doubles encounters. What changed? Why did I win? Did I get better while playing the game on a day? Of course not. All that changed is my opponent, my partner, and some bit of strategy. Same person, same game, same court, different result.
We so often question how we are doing in life. Today made me realise, are we doing better or worse is simply dependent on the environment we find ourselves in, the people we hang out with, the things we decide to do. I could never be a good enough Tennis player, but I can at least be an ok badminton player. If my opponents regularly keep beating me day in and day out, I might get disheartened and leave the sport altogether. If I don’t have a good partner to play with, I don’t think I can take on a decently competitive opponent and give them a good fight.
More than people simply telling you to change your perspective in life, maybe it is more important to change the enviroment and people in life. Are the people around you making you be better, or belittling you all the time. Is the environment around conducive, or sucks the energy from you. Are you doing the right thing that can make you be better at it, or are you stuck somewhere for far too long that only makes you feel miserable.
Life is not just a mind game. You can’t think your way out of a situation. To bring change in life, you need to literally bring change in life.
