Serie A is an essential showcase for giving visibility to your business, especially for less popular disciplines. And in the city, from this point of view, there is a company that so far has not yet missed a beat. It is about theAsd Brescia Sport Piùwhich in – after two consecutive promotions – reached the top badminton league. From then on, it only got better. Thanks to appropriate transfer choices, survival has never been a problem and after two consecutive sixth places last season, qualification for the Scudetto play-offs has arrived.
Then there are other results that make us proud Patrizia Piacentinithe former physical education teacher – now retired -, always leading the team. They are those achieved at the last Italian Youth Championships in Chiari, which saw the club’s athletes on the podium six times. It is a sign that the Serie A is acting as a driving force for the nursery, the only resource to continue the activity of a sport that attracts kids when they know it for the first time as a game of badminton, but which – at a competitive level – requires years of preparation to reach the top.
The young athletes medaled in Chiari
In the team championships, then, badminton has a peculiarity of its own and that is that of awarding only one championship. Males and females play together contributing to the cause in the same measure, because men’s and women’s singles and doubles, and also a mixed doubles, are played. Every single victory, among other things, is worth one point in the rankings in addition to the additional one for whoever wins the match. In short, never like in badminton does a formidable team spirit develop. Everyone feels useful, no one is indispensable.
And now, for the young promises of the Asd, the most attractive prospect is to play for the first team in the future. As happened last year to Irene Guarneri, one of the discipline’s promises, called up in 2021 for the women’s national Under 17 team. It makes no sense to point out now those who have the greatest possibilities. The leap remains great, given the high competitiveness of Serie A. What is certain is that Viola Frassine, Toska

These kids were all caught in the institutes of the province, thanks also to a happy project launched by the Federation, called «At badminton school»aimed at introducing students to the discipline during afternoon school hours, providing concrete tools to teachers and actively involving parents. At a later stage, the federal coaches take over to introduce the most promising to competitive activity. It is then up to the clubs to complete the growth process.

And, in this sense, Brescia has benefited greatly from the hiring of the Indonesian Marselinus Nanda Dewagraha, who in addition to playing doubles with Nicolò Volpi – another home athlete who won a championship in Bolzano when Asd was still playing in Serie B – is also a very valid instructor. «Thanks to him – confirms Patrizia Piacentini – the quality level of our kids has grown a lot». There is still a long way to go for a sport that is still little known. And especially for a club like Asd Brescia Sport Più, condemned to always play away from home.
In fact, to limit expenses, Serie A runs out in just three weekends, when the ten teams face each other in concentrations that include three championship days at a time. The city team does not have an adequate arena to host one. «Among other things, we train in Folzano – explains the president –, a location that is not exactly ideal for those who live in the city. Yet, in addition to the Serie A, we also play the C tournament and the Under 17 tournament. We deserve much more attention. For this reason, I will never tire of thanking sponsors such as Uila, Neproma service srl, Snymm, Centrale del latte, Polito Immobilare and Bcc Brescia, who allow us to move forward”.
