Olij will be out for months
Reserve goalkeeper Nick Olij finally got the chance to score for PSV on Tuesday, but things went wrong in the warm-up of the cup match with GVVV (3-0). Quite wrong, as it turns out: he has suffered a groin injury that will keep him out for months.
A hard blow for the 30-year-old goalkeeper, who came over from Sparta Rotterdam in the summer, lost the competition for the Eindhoven team to Matej Kovar and ended up on the reserve bench. He now has to wait even longer for his debut with the national champions.
Back to yesterday: worries in De Kuip
Coach Robin van Persie thinks he can still turn the tide at Feyenoord, which lost to SC Heerenveen (2-3) in the KNVB Cup, suffering its seventh defeat in the last nine games.
“Whether I am still the right man is not up to me,” Van Persie said at the press conference. “If it were up to me, I would continue to work here for years to come, that is my ambition. I have to prove every day that I am the right man. If I succeed, I would be very proud.”
After Wednesday evening’s deception in De Kuip, Van Persie went to the side of the field to talk to angry supporters in the stands. Goalkeeper Justin Bijlow and other players followed him.
Trainer Spakenburg thrown out of FC Twente’s group app for the cup match between both clubs
You have to believe in cup fairy tales, otherwise they don’t happen. Spakenburg coach Chris de Graaf has no doubt that he can seriously hurt FC Twente, the club where he is doing an internship, tonight in the second round of the KNVB Cup with his amateur club.
“As far as I’m concerned, it’s going to be a hot game,” says the 38-year-old coach. “It will of course be a very tough job, I know that better than anyone. But we are going to sell our skin as expensively as possible. We fully believe in it.”
De Graaf already has the necessary experience with cup stunts. Two years ago he led Spakenburg to the semi-finals of the cup with victories over FC Utrecht and FC Groningen, among others.
