In the search for a competitor for striker Troy Parrott, AZ has turned to Jizz Hornkamp, reports transfer journalist Mounir Boualin. Heracles Almelo’s club top scorer will most likely break the club’s transfer record.
According to the transfer journalist, negotiations have entered the final phase.
While Mexx Meerdink is still out of action for months due to a groin injury, the 27-year-old striker has to compete with Parrott.
According to Boualin, there were more clubs interested in Hornkamp, but the Alkmaarders seem to have the longest end. AZ will reportedly offer a multi-year contract to the attack leader.
In addition to covering Meerdink’s absence, the club seems to be preparing for a possible departure of the Irish striker. The 22-year-old shone for his national team last international match by scoring twice against Portugal (0-2) and Hungary (2-3).
According to Almelose sources, the winter transfer from Hornkamp to AZ should be a record transfer. In 2020, Lennart Czyborra left for Atalanta for 4.6 million euros, but the player from De Rijp will yield more for the Heracians. The attacker still has a contract until the end of the current season, with an option for an extra year.
By signing the Heracles striker, AZ is acquiring a proven goalscorer. Hornkamp has already found the net ten times this season, one more time than Parrott, who has nine hits.
