Auria Bádminton: 4 Medals from Granollers 2023

The Auria Badminton Club competition team traveled to Catalonia this past weekend to compete in the Granollers Territorial Master (N6) and the TOP TTR Granollers (N7), with both tournaments being held at the Congost Municipal Pavilion facilities. Miguel Barbado was proclaimed champion of the absolute category of the Granollers Territorial Master, José María Abad won two silver medals in the TOP TTR Granollers, and the couple formed by Rubén Jorge and Zhi Tao Li were proclaimed runners-up in the men’s doubles of the under-19 category.

The Granollers Territorial Master featured the participation of Adrián Carabali, Oliver Gausmann, Alejandro Rijo and Miguel Barbado in the senior category, and Patricia Vargas in the female under-17 category. And Zhi Tao Li and Rubén Jorge participated in the TOP TTR Granollers in the under-19 category, and José María Abad in the Senior B category.

Great competition carried out by Miguel Barbado in the Granollers Territorial Master, achieving qualification for the final draw by beating Pol Abarca in the group stage (21-10, 21-7). In the quarterfinals, he beat Rubén Carreras (21-17, 14-21, 25-23) and in the semifinals he achieved victory against Francisco Cobos (13-21, 21-14, 21-13). And in the grand final, the Auria Badminton Club player won the gold medal by beating David Riba (21-12, 18-21, 21-19).

In the TOP TTR Granollers, José María Abad reached the final of the Senior B category, after beating Manuel Chinchilla (21-13, 14-21, 21-12), Xavi Mir (21-15, 21-8) and Edgar Pablo (21-13, 21-18). In the grand final he faced the number one seed of the tournament, losing to Víctor Manuel Colay (14-21, 9-21).

José María Abad played the men’s doubles alongside Víctor Manuel Colay, a Barbastro player, achieving victory against Manuel Chinchilla – Xavi Mir (21-9, 21-14) and losing to Richin Abraham – Marc Fernández (15-21, 21-19, 7-21), winning the silver medal. And the medal table was completed by Rubén Jorge and Zhi Tao Li in the U19 men’s doubles, losing in the final against Arnau Blazquez – Nico Plaza (4-21, 5-21).

The Auria Bádminton Club closes the sporting year by winning four medals in the Granollers Territorial Master and in the TOP TTR Granollers, with the balance being one gold and three silvers. Now it’s time to enjoy a few days of rest, to return with more strength in the month of January to face the second part of the season.
