Score three times and still lose. It is the hard lesson that bottom-line Wolverhampton received on the Arsenal field. The leader in the Premier League was able to avoid a nasty loss of points thanks to a double own goal.

In the Champions League, Arsenal had shown their dominance against Club Brugge, but they had forgotten to bring that form back from Belgium.

For the first time this season, the leader could not aim a single shot on target in the first half. It had been more than a year since that happened to Arsenal in front of their own audience. And that against the worst defense in England (33 goals conceded, 13 defeats).

It needed a flash after the break, but it turned out to be a stroke of luck. A corner kick from Bukayoko Saka did not result in an Olympic goal, but it still became a goal via the post and the back of goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

You can also win ugly, Arsenal thought. But Wolverhampton, which could only collect 2 points this season, actually bounced back. Tolu Arokodare (ex-Genk) unexpectedly headed the visitors level.

The euphoria turned into bitter disappointment again a few minutes later. Gabriel Jesus just missed a cross, Mosquera headed unluckily into his own goal. Arsenal are coming away well after a worrying display.

Tolu: “This is painful”

“This is painful,” Tolu admitted. “It’s been happening all season. We play well for 90 minutes and then concede a goal. I don’t really know how to explain it.”

“We have to work on staying focused until the final whistle. It was a combination of poor defending and bad luck.”

Does the ex-Genk striker remember nothing positive? “Of course, we focus on the good, not the bad. We have quality, but not much luck in the finishing.”

Emmanuel Agbadou (Wolverhampton Wanderers) is whistled back by the referee. He went too hard on Bukayo Saka (Arsenal).

The attempt is saved by Sam Johnstone (Wolverhampton Wanderers). The keeper went well and was able to clamp the ball.

Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal) scores…

Painful moment for Yerson Mosquera (Wolverhampton Wanderers). He wants to clear the ball, but he outwits his own goalkeeper.

An extra 6 minutes will be added.

Mateus Mané (Wolverhampton Wanderers) puts a cross onto the head of Toluwalase Emmanuel Arokodare and he heads the 1 – 1 into the net.

Leandro Trossard (Arsenal) kicks on goal, but his shot goes wide.

Martin Ødegaard (Arsenal) kicks on goal, but his shot goes wide.

Viktor Gyökeres (Arsenal) kicks on goal, but his shot goes wide.

Martin Ødegaard (Arsenal) kicks on goal, but his shot goes wide.

Ladislav Krejcí (Wolverhampton Wanderers) is whistled back by the referee. He went too hard on Mikel Merino (Arsenal).

Goal for Arsenal. Sam Johnstone unfortunately scores in his own goal.
