- Fanny Smith takes third place on the podium in the Ski Cross World Cup in Arosa.
- The woman from Vaud comes third. It is the first Swiss podium finish in Arosa since 2021.
- The Swiss men all fail in the round of 16 at the latest.
Fanny Smith ended a four-year dry spell in Arosa. In the ski resort in Graubünden, Switzerland had been waiting for a podium place since 2021 – until Tuesday evening. Smith, who was fastest in qualifying, marched confidently into the big final. For once, Romande didn’t get off to a dream start.
This took immediate toll on the extremely short course. Smith was no longer able to hold a candle to Sandra Näslund (SWE) and Daniela Maier (GER), who were running away, and came third. As so often, the victory went to Näslund, who now has 42 World Cup successes.
Gantenbein and Cousin in the small final
Things looked good for Talina Gantenbein in the semi-final, which Smith won, until about halfway through the course. She lost some time due to a driving error and was promptly unable to defend her second place.
Sistine Cousin also lost out in the semi-finals. The Geneva woman came out on top in the small final against Gantenbein (7th) and finished in 6th place.
Swiss series out in the round of 16
“It’s extremely startup-heavy. At my age, I might not have as much speed,” Alex Fiva had said beforehand with a smile.
The 39-year-old turned out to be right. Fiva was already stuck in the round of 16 after getting out of the starting blocks the slowest. Like Ryan Regez and Gil Martin, he came last in his heat. The out was particularly bitter for Martin, who got off to a good start but then got into trouble and fell behind.
The victory went to Reece Howden (CAN) ahead of Johannes Aujesky (AUT) and David Mobärg (SWE).
This is how it goes
The ski cross cracks will be challenged again next weekend. SRF will broadcast the races in San Candido (ITA) live as usual on Saturday (from 12:00 p.m.) and on Sunday (from 11:55 a.m.).
