Antwerp inaugurated its brand new Tribune 2 with a victory against KRC Genk. CEO Sven Jaecques is already dreaming of the next works to come at Bosuil.
The brand new Tribune 2 vibrated as in the finest times of the past. On Sunday evening, Antwerp dominated KRC Genk 3-0, and this newly inaugurated infrastructure immediately gave the Great Old a boost.
“In the medium and long term, this platform will make a huge difference for the club,” says the club’s CEO, Sven Jaecques, faithful to his speech in recent weeks and months. “The atmosphere at Bosuil was already unique. Increasing capacity was essential from a financial point of view.”
Even more spectators?
At the microphone of The Latest Newsthe CEO of Antwerp is even already talking about the future: “With this phase, we can increase to 21,000 spectators. In a following phase, we want to reach a total capacity of 24,500.”
According to Jaecques, Tribune 2 will remain in place “at least ten years”. Its temporary nature allowed the club to react quickly.
“We could have followed the same path as for Stands 1 and 4, building gradually,” he continues. “But in this case, we would have gone for three or four years of work, with all the procedures that that implies.”
Is this future extension already assured? “It depends on several factors: mobility, security, organization… It makes sense first to observe how things go with 21,000 fans. It’s new for us, but also for the neighborhood.”
