The memory of a silent and precious manager, an exemplary father.
Antonio Iero, historic and valiant manager, pillar of Reggio basketball for many years, leaves us following a terrible illness. His passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him, of working alongside him.
Antonio wrote important pages in our history alongside another glory, Gerry Brienza, in the leadership of the statistics sector.
In that role, meticulous and fundamental, he contributed to passing on the memory of the team’s successes and exploits, with the precision of a goldsmith and the dedication of a lover.
They were wonderful years of passionate work and authentic sharing.
But for all of us, Antonio was much more than a manager. He was and always will be Demetrio’s father, a basketball player, a clear example of sportsmanship and attachment to the shirt. And in that role, Antonio was a perfect parent: attentive, silent, never intrusive. A serene point of reference, always ready to give his contribution for the good of the team and the boys, without ever asking for anything in return.
The memory immediately goes to the unforgettable dinners with the Viola group of ’94, ’95 and ’96. That group, today a model for the new generations, found in Antonio a reassuring and involved presence. In those moments of complicity off the court, his good smile emerged, the joy of talking about “beautiful” basketball, and the immense, tangible pride for his splendid family to whom our condolences go today.
This is the memory we want to cherish: a kind man, a present father, a loyal manager.
