Amorim: No Mainoo Exit & Belief in Current Squad

Ruben Amorim showed confidence in the squad he has at his disposal, but guaranteed that only with the complete group will he be able to get the best performance from the team. In a press conference, the Manchester United coach explained that the current difficulties are largely linked to absences and not to a lack of quality.

«When I look at the team, I feel that when I have a complete squad, I will be able to extract more quality from this group. That’s my focus. When we have all the players available, we will be better”, he stated.

Asked about the possibility of reinforcing the midfield – making up for the losses of Bruno Fernandes and Mainoo – in the January market, Amorim said: «It is true that we are experiencing some difficulties at the moment, but the club has a plan and we will remain faithful to that plan. If the opportunity arises to bring in a player who we feel will be the future of the club, he will come. If not, we have players returning: Jack, Shea, Amad, Noos, Bryan, Bruno and Kobbie Mainoo.”

«We had the problem with Kobbie and then with Bruno. If we can bring in someone good, we will. If not, we will invest that money in the summer», he explained.

Regarding possible departures in January, Amorim was peremptory, ruling out Kobbie Mainoo’s loan scenario. “No. If we don’t sign anyone, it’s impossible to let players leave. There are already few of us, even with the full squad. We are a club with a great responsibility and we have to win every game, so it is difficult for someone to leave if there is no replacement”, he stressed.

«Kobbie will have his opportunities, as he always has. He can play in several positions, be it in Casemiro’s place or where Mason Mount played in the last game. He will be the future of Manchester United, he just needs to wait for the right moment”, he added.

Faced with the ambition of finishing the season in the top 4, the coach preferred not to set public goals, but left a message of confidence. «It’s difficult to talk about it. What I can say is that we have the potential to do more and I believe I can do more with this team”, he declared.
