Next ski coup for Scheib – Moltzan falls violently
It’s still a great winter for Austrian Julia Scheib. An American woman causes a moment of shock at the giant slalom in Semmering, Lena Dürr is the best German.
The Austrian ski racer Julia Scheib continues to cause a sensation in the Olympic season. The 27-year-old celebrated her third World Cup victory this winter in the giant slalom in Semmering. The Swiss Camille Rast came second ahead of the Swedish Olympic champion Sara Hector, who was still leading after the first run.
Scheib made his World Cup debut in 2018, but had not yet won a race until this winter. Now, as in the giant slaloms in Sölden (Austria) and Mont-Tremblant (Canada), she was at the top. Her current fiercest rival in this discipline, New Zealander Alice Robinson, was eliminated.
Dürr in the top ten – Moltzan falls heavily
The top German riders Lena Dürr and Emma Aicher took 10th and 19th place on the Zauberberg. The duo should attack again, especially in the slalom on Sunday. 20-year-old Jana Fritz surprised with 24th place and scored the first points of her career in only her fourth World Cup start.
Paula Moltzan caused a moment of shock shortly at the end of the race. The American fell and hit her back. Her teammate, long-time alpine dominator Mikaela Shiffrin, didn’t want to look and put her hand over her mouth in the finish area. But Moltzan at least got up again and hobbled off the track with his face contorted in pain.
