Alex Escobar on América Cali’s Win vs Nacional

Despite being eliminated on the last day of the semi-final home runs of the second semester of the Colombian League, América de Cali managed to close 2025 with a 3-2 victory against Atlético Nacional at the Pascual Guerrero stadium.

However, despite eliminating one of its greatest historical rivals, the team regrets not having reached the last day with options, in which they could have certified their passage to the grand final.

David González’s technical assistant spoke about this, Alex Escobarwho expressed his joy at the victory, but also his disappointment at the elimination.

“The team showed a lot of dignity in this home run, a lot of integrity; the boys I think they left their skin on the field, in a group that was said to be of death and there were other favorites,” he indicated at first.

Then, he added that “the last 10 minutes of Barranquilla hurt us a lot, the goal that they validated for us here (at the Pascual Guerrero) with Junior, but I think we have to stay with the good things, important things like the work of the coaching staffwhich was fundamental with teacher David, where the team managed to rebound and qualify for the semi-final home runs.”

“In this Group A, in which many of us had no option for anything, and I think the team showed capacity, with the performance of important players, with five or six players from the quarry who helped us in the important and difficult moments we had. “That showed once again that we had more, that good work is being done,” added the ‘Pibe del Barrio Obrero’.

He also mentioned all the difficulties that the team overcame to be able to reach these levels, leaving them at the doorstep of the finals.

“Despite the expulsions and injuries, the team continued to show its face, continued to show capacity and today we finished the final championship with a lot of capacity, dignity and we eliminated our rival, which is Nacional. That was spectacular and very important for us and for the fans, because the classic is América-Nacional, and that was important. But it hurts not to be in the final because of everything already mentioned,” Escobar said.

Now, América de Cali will enter a brief period of vacation, and in the coming weeks it will return to work at the Cascajal headquarters, to begin planning what will be 2026, which will arrive again with the national challenges and the place in the Copa Sudamericana.
