Berlin (dpa) – The basketball players from Alba Berlin kept their chance of winning the group in the Champions League. The Bundesliga team won on Tuesday evening against the previous French leader Elan Chalon with 100:91 (47:49). Since the first leg was only lost 76:81, the direct comparison would go to Alba, who could avoid the play-ins. One win is still missing on the last matchday. The best Berlin throwers were Malte Delow with 18 and Jack Kayil with 17 points.

Even without their injured playmaker Martin Hermannsson, the guests started the game well and were initially narrowly in the lead. They worked particularly well defensively and put the hosts under pressure. In the middle of the first quarter, Alba had pulled away to 14:9. But then the French became stronger and now also hit their long-range throws.

Alba again with strong nerves at the end

Now the game was completely balanced and the lead changed back and forth in the second period. However, the Berliners made too many mistakes, left some open throws and wasted important points, especially from the free throw line. Only three of eight attempts found their way into the basket in the first half.

Alba then started the second half disastrously and fell behind by double digits for the first time in the third quarter (47:57). But they stayed calm and responded immediately with a 20:5 run. But it remained tight. In the final phase, the Berliners once again had better nerves and were able to pull away decisively with a 13-0 run to make it 96:85.
