Akouokou Transfer: Lyon Deal Collapses

Loaned by Olympique Lyonnais this summer, Paul Akouokou is not satisfying Real Zaragoza. The Spanish D2 resident tries to interrupt the passage of the defensive midfielder. But for the moment, the Rhone club is categorically opposed to it.

Between Paul Akouokou and Olympique Lyonnais, it’s still not over. The midfielder, under contract until 2027, was only loaned to Real Zaragoza at the very end of the summer transfer window. The Rhone club could hope that its experience goes well and that the resident of Spanish D2 keeps the Ivorian. But this scenario is not current. On the contrary, the team that welcomes the former Betis player doesn’t want to hear about it anymore!

His coach Rubén Sellés no longer counts on Paul Akouokou who has not played in the league since his famous exclusion on October 18. As a reminder, the 28-year-old midfielder, already excluded a week earlier, had not accepted this new red card against Cultural Leonesa, hence his punch on the VAR screen. Without knowing it, Paul Akouokou was making his last move in the championship. He who finds himself pushed towards the exit. Real Zaragoza would like to break their loan at the risk of paying a penalty. But for the moment, El Gol Digital affirms that Olympique Lyonnais refuses to go back on their agreement.

Akouokou’s condition

This is not really a surprise since the Ivorian international is not part of Paulo Fonseca’s plans either. His presence would only increase the Gones payroll, still supervised by the DNCG. Given Lyon’s refusal, Real Zaragoza can only hope that a new team wishes to recruit Paul Akouokou this winter. Not sure if a team will come forward to recover the flop. Especially since the latter only considers leaving on condition of landing within a formation of at least equivalent level.
