Ajax has its eye on Takehiro Tomiyasu, it is reported Football International Sunday. The 27-year-old Japanese is clubless after leaving Arsenal and is therefore seen as a godsend in Amsterdam.
In 2021, Tomiyasu movedto North London for around twenty million euros. The 42-time international wore the shirt in 84 matches the Gunners.
In April this year, Tomiyasu and Arsenal parted ways amicably. This was partly due to the defender’s injuries. In conversation with DAZN Japan he previously explained his reasons for leaving.
“In the 2024/25 season I spent the whole year rehabilitating. I was dealing with a lot of stress and uncertainty, to the point that I started asking myself: is this where my future lies? It felt like I wasn’t really there.”
The experienced footballer, who also wore the shirt of Bologna, Sint-Truiden and Avispa Fukuoka, is now clubless. Ajax sees the versatile defender as a golden opportunity.
With a market value of sixteen million euros and the level he occasionally reached at Arsenal, Tomiyase would be an excellent acquisition. The only problem: Tomiyasu hasn’t played an official match in fourteen months.
In any case, Ajax is closely monitoring the situation of the Japanese. Tomiyasu can play in both back positions and is also an option in the center back.
