Ajax will most likely hire a controlling midfielder in the winter. Stije Resink is also high on the wish list of the people of Amsterdam, but the chance that he will come in the winter is minimal.
“Ajax will probably rent a number six in the winter period,” says Ajax watcher Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf in the podcast Kick-Off. “The clause in Stije Resink’s contract will only come into effect next summer; that will only then become an option. A very serious option, because I think he is a good football player.”
It is clear to Valentijn Driessen: Ajax must do everything it can to sign Resink this winter. “You can negotiate with FC Groningen about Resink, right? You have to focus everything on that. That’s the new man and you can continue to build on that. If you don’t negotiate, you know for sure that he won’t come.”
Verweij then gives an update on the fitness of Takehiro Tomiyasu. “Our Japanese defender from Arsenal has not played football for a total of seventeen months, but he seems to be fit. He can put himself in the spotlight for the World Cup. The only advantage Ajax does have is that Ajax does not have to pay anything if he does not play or gets injured again.”
