CAF’s decision makes people happy. While it has taken place every two years since 1968, the African Cup of Nations will take place every four years after the edition planned for 2027 in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania as announced by the president of the Confederation of African Football Patrice Motsepe.
And obviously, Aïssa Mandi finds this idea rather good. Present at a press conference this Saturday before facing Burkina Faso, the Algerian approved this major change for African football.
“Every four years, I think it’s a good thing. It’s true that every two years, it’s a bit repetitive, we have the impression of seeing the CAN all the time,” commented the Lille defender.
“It’s good for African football”
The most capped player in the history of the Algerian selection (111 caps) supported his statement by comparing the CAN to the Euro and the Copa América: “In South America, I think it’s every four years too, the European Championship is every four years. I think it’s something quite logical and it’s good for African football. »
Note that CAF also announced the creation of an African League of Nations (CAF Nations League), which will have the same model as that of UEFA and will be organized on Fifa dates from 2028 to replace the CAN every two years. A competition in which Aïssa Mandi could perhaps participate.
