Faster than Vonn: skiing hope Aicher on the verge of victory
Emma Aicher steals the show from the Alpine stars in the second descent from St. Moritz. Lindsey Vonn also doesn’t come close to the top German talent, but is once again on course for the podium.
Skiing hope Emma Aicher duped the stars in the second downhill run in St. Moritz and is on the verge of her third World Cup victory. The 22-year-old top talent from the German alpine team was surprisingly in the lead after 25 starters in the race in Switzerland.
Second at this point was the American Lindsey Vonn, who raced to her first World Cup success in almost eight years in the downhill on Friday. In third place was the Italian 2018 Olympic champion Sofia Goggia. Aicher’s teammate Kira Weidle-Winkelmann missed the top ten.
For Aicher it would be the second podium finish this season after third place in the slalom in Levi, Finland in mid-November. It would also be another strong sign with a view to the Winter Olympics in February in Italy. In the first of the two downhill runs in St. Moritz she came fifth.
