[서울=뉴시스]Reporter Park Yoon-seo = Badminton women’s singles ‘strongest player’ Ahn Se-young (Samsung Life Insurance) won the second match of the King of Kings, confirming her advancement to the semifinals.

Ahn Se-young defeated world No. 9 Tomoka Miyazaki (Japan) 2-0 (21-9 21-6) in the second match of the women’s singles Group A of the 2025 Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour Finals held at the Olympic Sports Center in Hangzhou, China on the 18th.

Afterwards, the score gap narrowed to 14-8, but he scored 4 points in a row to make it 18-9, and then scored 3 points in a row to take the first game.

Ahn Se-young’s upward trend continued in the second game.

Ahn Se-young, who had been outshot 10-3 from the beginning, took the win by running away to 19-5 with fierce offense and stable defense.

Ahn Se-young easily won the game by scoring points after conceding a goal.

The World Tour Finals is a ‘King of Kings’ tournament where the best players compete for the championship in five events, including men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles, hosted by this year’s BWF. The top eight players (groups) in total World Tour points participated in each event.

Players are divided into groups A and B of four each and compete in the group stage, and the first and second place winners from each group advance to the semifinals to determine the winner.

Ahn Se-young, who achieved 10 wins this year and broke the BWF single-season women’s singles record for most wins (9 wins) that she set two years ago, will tie the record for most wins in a single season set by Kento Momota (Japanese men’s singles) in 2019 if she reaches the top in the King of Kings Tournament.

Ahn Se-young, who defeated world number 7 Putri Kusuma Wardani (Indonesia) and Miyazaki in succession, will play the final match of Group A against world number 4 Akane Yamaguchi (Japan) on the 19th.

If Ahn Se-young defeats Yamaguchi, he will finish first in his group and advance to the semifinals.
