African Youth Games: Badminton Team Reaches Quarters

The men’s badminton duo of Equatorial Guinea, formed by Jovino Ondó Bee and Carlos Raúl Esonoachieved this Friday a historic qualification to the quarterfinals of the African Youth Games, held in Luanda, Angola.

The pass came after an important victory against the Zimbabwe teamin a very disputed duel which ended 2–1 in favor of the Equatoguinean team, with partials of 15–21, 24–22 and 21–16. The victory unleashed the joy of the national delegation, led by the president of COGE, Alejandro Martín Owono Evuna Andeme, who congratulated the players and encouraged them to maintain their efforts during the rest of the competition.

Before the doubles match, Jovino Ondó Bee had already shone in the individual category, winning with authority over the representative of Botswana by 21-17 and 21-13, sealing a resounding 2-0 on the scoreboard.

In the women’s categorythe day was less favorable. The Equatoguinean players fell to the teams of Mauritius and Nigeria, although they still have a chance to advance if they achieve a victory in the matches scheduled for this Saturday.

The African Youth Games continue to leave good feelings for the Equatoguinean delegation, which hopes to add new successes when the national wrestling representatives enter the competition this weekend.
