FC Twente drew 1-1 on Sunday against FC Utrecht and Ibrahim Afellay enjoyed Mats Rots. The former professional footballer was full of praise for the development of the talented wing defender on ‘Studio Voetbal’ on Sunday evening.
“Super nice, he was also in the selection of the Dutch Under 19s last summer,” he added Studio Football. “He had a very good six months at Heracles last year, and is now an undisputed starting player at FC Twente and he is doing really great. He has a great left leg. But this ball still has to go in, if you look as a football fan. That ball is just so beautifully taken,” says Afellay about the long shot on the crossbar.
“He has a beautiful left leg and has already scored a very good goal. The goal he scores exactly describes his way of playing, he also sets up the attack himself,” he continues enthusiastically. Pierre van Hooijdonk then makes a critical note. “I think that the goalkeeper (Barkas, ed.) is standing way too far in the short corner. Suppose the ball was shot into the short corner, then he dives into the boards. Couldn’t he just be a little more to the middle?”
