Tony Khan doesn’t lose any sleep over the gigantic deal from 82.7 billion of dollars with which Netflix has acquired Warner Bros. Discovery. At least, not for now.
With the shows AEW on air TBS, TNT e Max (all properties WBD), fans immediately wondered what all this could mean for the future of the company. Adding the fact that Netflix she’s already insured WWE Raw in 2025, panic seemed inevitable. But Khan he doesn’t seem agitated at all, and has no intention of packing his bags.
Speaking in the post-show conference of ROH Final Battle, Khan clarified that the current home of the AEW it won’t change overnight.
Solid and long-lasting partnership
“First of all, it’s too early to comment on anything that’s still up in the air. Without going into detail about what hasn’t been finalized yet, I just want to say that we have a great partnership with Warner Brothers Discovery, and it will continue for many years.”
Khan wanted to remind everyone that AEW it is not time-limited: the contract still has several years of validity. And to avoid misunderstandings, he also indicated the timing precisely.
“We still have years left in our deal with TBS and HBO Max. There has been wrestling on TBS since 1971, albeit with a 20-year hiatus, and I’m proud to continue that history. We’ll do hundreds more episodes of Dynamite.”
“I can tell you with certainty that at least through the end of 2027, going into 2028, we’ll be here for many years. That’s more than two years with AEW on TBS, TNT and HBO Max.”
Ties to the NFL and confidence in the future
Khan he also played down acquisition concerns by emphasizing his relationship with the NFL and the fact that all the protagonists of the race for WBD they are already familiar to him.
“All of the bidders for Warner Brothers Discovery are also media partners of the NFL, and they are great partners for us. Each of them is someone we already work with in the NFL, so I have great respect for everyone.”
In summary: even if the purchase of WBD on the part of Netflix could shake up the world of entertainment, Khan stay focused on what you can control. AEW will not be ousted from TNT o TBS in the near future, and he has no intention of worrying until there actually is something to worry about.
