2nd League: Karlsruhe Striker – Dive & Red Card?

SC Paderborn has at least temporarily moved up to second place in the 2nd league table and dealt Karlsruher SC the next setback. The Baden team lost 0:4 (0:0) to East Westphalia and suffered their fifth defeat in a row. Laurin Curda scored for Paderborn in the 65th and 71st minutes, Raphael Obermair (78th) and Tjark Scheller (87th) increased. At KSC, Fabian Schleusener (53rd) and Marcel Franke (83rd) each saw yellow-red in front of 28,166 spectators.

For the Karlsruhe team it was the next low point in a difficult week. The surprising separation from long-time assistant coach Zlatan Bajramovic recently caused a stir and unrest within the team.

In a fairly uneventful first half, KSC remained harmless offensively and was very lucky shortly before the break that Paderborn’s Curda only hit the aluminum with his head (43′). After the break, things got turbulent.

The supposed 1-0 by Leon Opitz (48th) was revoked after a video check. The Karlsruhe midfielder’s goal was preceded by a foul by his teammate Meiko Waschenbach. A short time later, striker Schleusener was thrown off the pitch. The 34-year-old fell in the penalty area and immediately showed when he got up that it wasn’t a foul. Nevertheless, referee Timo Gansloweit rated it as a swallow – a tough decision.

After Curda’s goal to give the SCP the lead, the hosts fell apart. Shortly before the end, Franke also received a yellow-red card for a foul.

1. FC Magdeburg – Holstein Kiel 3:3 (2:1)

1. FC Magdeburg left the bottom of the table for the first time since the sixth matchday. However, the Magdeburg team missed out on what they thought would be a certain win against Holstein Kiel in stoppage time. Both teams split 3:3 (2:1). The FCM climbed to 16th place in the table – three points behind first division relegated Kiel.

David Zec gave the North Germans the lead in the 43rd minute with a penalty kick and then equalized with a hand penalty (68th). Noah Pesch (45th+1) and Baris Atik (45th+3) turned the game around with a double strike in front of 26,497 spectators. Mateusz Zukowski (83′) converted the third penalty of this game for FCM, before Steven Skrzybski (90+2) saved the draw for Kiel.

The FCM, who played in a special jersey for the club’s 60th anniversary, were initially the dominant team, while the North Germans acted somewhat without ideas. The first big chance was missed by Zukowski (9th), who shot the ball just past the Kiel goal under pressure. Then Lumambo Musonda fouled Niklas Niehoff from Kiel. Pesch safely converted to lead the visitors. The Magdeburgers shook briefly and caused the stadium to shake in stoppage time in the first half: First Pesch circled the ball directly into the left corner from 20 meters, then Atik artistically scored from the air with a side kick.

After the change, Kiel became more active. Magdeburg was again unlucky with penalties. An extended ball hit Marcus Mathisen’s arm, and central defender Zec (68th) converted again to make it 2-2. Then there was another penalty, this time for the hosts: Zukowski hit the ball into the left corner to make it 3-2 (83′). In stoppage time, Steven Skrzybski (90+2) saved the draw with a dream goal from 20 meters.

Arminia Bielefeld – 1. FC Kaiserslautern 0-0

1. FC Kaiserslautern continues to struggle in away games and has once again dropped points in the promotion battle. Torsten Lieberknecht’s team couldn’t get past a 0-0 draw against relegation candidate Arminia Bielefeld. While Bielefeld was able to end a series of three defeats in a row, Kaiserslautern failed to win in the eighth away game of the season for the sixth time.

For a long time it was a game of patience, two well-organized teams largely neutralized each other and avoided taking risks. With the exception of two disallowed goals, penalty area scenes were rare. Marius Wörl was offside when he finished (23′), as was FCK striker Daniel Hanslik three minutes later.

In the middle of the second half, Bielefeld acted more offensively and had the best chances of the game when Stefano Russo hit the crossbar (60th) with a long-range shot and a header from Joel Felix (85th). The Palatinate team, on the other hand, waited most of the time for a counterattack: But when the guests had the opportunity, the transition game took too long. So it remained a goalless draw – the first 0-0 of the season for both teams.
