On July 24, 2024, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) officially awarded the event to France, but the decision to return to the Games was decided well in advance, at the highest summit of the State. At the beginning of April 2024, while several ministers, notably Gabriel Attal, then head of government, expressed reservations – Attal even refused to sign the letter of commitment – Emmanuel Macron insisted.
