2026 World Cup: Hotel Price Surge – Up to 2373%

To attend the 2026 World Cup matches, it will not only be a matter of finding tickets, but also being able to find accommodation in North America. This Wednesday, The Athletic published an analysis on the price of hotel rooms during the World Cup in the cities hosting the matches. Unsurprisingly, prices are rising, but the increases are of insane proportions.

The most striking example? This room in a Mexico hotel usually priced at 157 dollars per night – or approximately 135 euros – increases to 3,882 dollars, 3,330 euros, on June 10 and 11, the day of the opening match of the competition between Mexico and South Africa. An increase of 2,373%.

Smallest increase in Toronto

The American media study concerns 96 establishments distributed among the 16 host cities. The average price for a night there is $293 three weeks before the start of the World Cup. But it jumps to $1,013 for the dates surrounding the opener. An increase of 328%.

Overall, hotels in Mexican cities took advantage of the opportunity more than others. Mexico City (961%) and Monterrey (466%) open the rankings ahead of Houston (457%). Those in Canadian cities were less greedy. The lowest increase is in Toronto (78%). All other places exceeded 100% increase.
