A record endowment. The International Football Federation (Fifa) will distribute a total of 727 million dollars (620 million euros) to be distributed among the 48 teams which will participate in the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, as revealed this Wednesday.
Meeting on the sidelines of the Intercontinental Cup final between Paris Saint-Germain and Flamengo this Wednesday in Doha (Qatar), the Fifa council “approved a record financial contribution of $727 million,” the body communicated.
The allocation increases, as does the number of teams
She mentions a 50% increase compared to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which corresponds to the 50% increase in participating teams, from 32 to 48.
If each of them will receive $1.5 million “to cover their preparation costs”, most of the sum allocated by Fifa, i.e. $655 million, is devoted to bonuses. The winner will pocket $50 million (42.7 million euros, almost 44 million euros if we combine with preparation costs), the finalist $33 million, and so on in a decreasing manner until the $9 million paid to the 12 teams eliminated in the first round.
In 2022, for the World Cup in Qatar, Argentina, crowned, received $42 million and France, finalist, $30 million. The 16 teams eliminated in the first round received $9 million each.
