TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Both Indonesia’s men’s singles badminton player, Alwi Farhan, and the men’s doubles pair, Sabar Karyaman Gutama and Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, contributed gold medals to Indonesia at the 2025 SEA Games. The badminton category surpassed the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ target of two gold medals by contributing a total of three.

In the men’s singles event, Indonesia was already guaranteed a gold medal with an all-Indonesian final, as Alwi and Zaki Ubaidillah advanced to the final match. Their match lasted for three games.

Playing at Thammasat University Rangsit Campus, Pathum Thani, Thailand on Sunday, December 14, 2025, Alwi initially lost the first game. However, he won the next two games. The final score was 21-13, 8-21, 12-21.

As a result, Alwi secured the gold medal, and his teammate Ubed contributed the silver medal. After the match, they embraced each other.

The next contribution of the gold medal came from Sabar/Reza. This pair defeated the Malaysian representatives, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, in two straight games, 21-14 and 21-17. Previously, they also defeated Aaron and Soh in the team finals.

One Indonesian representative in the final, the women’s doubles pair Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Meilysa Trias Puspitasari, failed to secure the gold medal and could only claim the silver medal after losing to the Malaysian representatives Pearly Tan/Thinaah Muralitharan after playing a close three-game match, 21-16, 19-21, 21-17.

With the addition of Alwi’s and Sabar/Reza’s gold medals, the badminton team earned a total of three gold medals at the 2025 SEA Games. Previously, the men’s team won a gold medal in the team event, as well as three silver and four bronze medals.
