It was two teams in good form, to say the least, that clashed in the Coop Norrbotten Arena. Both teams had ten consecutive victories before tonight’s meeting.
The opening was even but after six minutes Hanna Thuvik broke the deadlock when she scored her 13th goal of the season to make it 1-0.
The same Thuvik was also close to extending the lead a few minutes later.
Luleå had a crossbar hit with six minutes left, but otherwise created few clear scoring chances in the first period.
We won the shots in the period by 10-3 and fairly went into the break in the lead, although Luleå came close to equalizing in the final minute
Luleå came out strong in the second period and applied pressure early. However, a sending off for the home team after four minutes took the edge off their momentum. Just 19 seconds into the power play, we extended the lead to 2-0 through Jenniina Nylund, who found the cross.
The game then swung in both directions, but when Luleå got another sending-off after just over eleven minutes, we once again took advantage of the chance, when Viivi Vainikka scored 3-0.
Luleå then got their first power play in the match, but our box play resisted well and we were able to go to the break with a clear grip on the match.
In the third period we continued to play stable and controlled. Luleå tried to press to get closer in terms of goals, but we held the defensive together in an exemplary manner and allowed few dangerous finishes.
With 25 seconds left in the match, Anna Brenkle scored the last goal of the match, which meant 4–0.
With a strong team effort, we secured both a clean sheet and a convincing 4–0 victory.
The next task in SDHL is already tomorrow, Friday when we visit Skellefteå. Drop-off is at 18:00.
