West Ham United secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Burnley, marking their first back-to-back wins since October 2024. manager Nuno Espirito Santo emphasized the importance of maintaining focus despite the crucial win.
Burnley initially took the lead through Zian Flemming’s header from a leslie Ugochukwu cross. However, West Ham responded before halftime, with Callum Wilson netting his second goal for the club to level the score.
The Hammers seized the lead with 13 minutes left on the clock when Tomas Soucek found the back of the net after a misjudgment by goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on a Lucas Paquetá cross. Kyle Walker-Peters then extended the lead with a rebound after Soucek’s long-range effort.
Although Josh Cullen managed to pull one back for Burnley, West Ham held on to their advantage. The win saw West Ham draw level with Burnley on goal difference, maintaining a three-point lead in the standings.
This victory marks the first time west Ham has won consecutive Premier League matches after conceding the opening goal in each game, a feat previously achieved in December 2014 against West Brom and Swansea. Their other recent win was a 3-1 victory against Newcastle.
Manager Nuno expressed his satisfaction with the team’s recent form but cautioned against complacency, stating, “I’m happy for the boys and our fans. This was a crucial game for us.” He added, “The goal we conceded, the reaction was good. We have shown that we want to change things, we want to be strong in character. The boys on the field are showing this little by little.”
nuno acknowledged the significance of the win at the London Stadium, noting, “I think it’s a small step, another day were we’ve achieved something at the London stadium, which means a lot. but we won’t get carried away.”
Tomas Soucek’s goal brought his Premier League tally for West Ham to 38, equaling Patrick Berger’s record as the highest-scoring Czech player in the competition. soucek, who came off the bench, made a decisive impact with a goal and an assist.
Soucek commented on his role, saying, “I would love to be a starter, but I do whatever it takes for the team.” He continued, “I’m very happy that we won at home, we can go into the international break with a great feeling as we are building something.” He also noted, “We were expecting the first win and then I could see that the whole training camp is different. everyone can see why we’re building something. It’s a really good reflection today, too.”
Burnley manager Scott Parker expressed his disappointment, believing his team had a genuine opportunity to secure a win. “I thought the game was there for us to win,” Parker stated. “I felt like we could try to change the game from the bench. We lost the game on two set pieces and then the third goal we were a little adrift.”
Burnley’s defensive struggles continue, having conceded at least two goals in their last seven away Premier League matches. This streak is their longest since their initial 11 away games in the competition between August 2009 and January 2010. Parker admitted, “At crucial moments there were definately disconnects. We came up a little short at certain times today.”
