San Antonio held a narrow 77-79 lead heading into the final quarter. In the crucial fourth period, Wembanyama poured in 10 points, including a go-ahead layup that put the Spurs up 108-105 with just a minute remaining.
The intensity of the game was palpable, with a notable moment of friction between Wembanyama and Draymond Green. After a missed shot by “Wemby,” Green appeared to taunt him, onyl to be met with a powerful one-handed dunk from the French phenom moments later, which seemed to cool the situation.
“I Remained Calm”
“I remained calm, I didn’t try to provoke him,” Wembanyama stated after the game. “But at some point, if someone speaks to you in a certain way, you also have to respond in a certain way. My best answer is always on the ground. This is what hurts them the most.” He added that Green “stayed wholly silent when I dunked on him.”
Despite Wembanyama’s late heroics, the Warriors fought back. Jimmy butler managed to cut the deficit to one point, but his subsequent attempt was blocked by Wembanyama. However, Fox’s foul on Curry sent the Warriors’ star to the line, where he calmly sank both free throws to seal the victory, scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter alone.
