After several complicated matches, Victor Wembanyama needed to reassure himself last night against the weak racket of the New Orleans Pelicans. If everything was not perfect, the Frenchman still achieved his best performance of the week with 18 points and 18 rebounds.
Victor Wembanyama’s start to the match was not reassuring. The Alien seemed to want to regain confidence by playing a little more like last season. Three 3-point shots attempted in barely more than a quarter, without any success. He managed to dominate the defensive rebound, but otherwise he seemed obliterated.
From the second quarter, the machine started. More aggression in the painting, caviars from Stephon Castle and his dynamic was gradually established. De’Aaron Fox was back last night, wonderful news which seemed to free up space for him, a very encouraging sign for the future.

Victor Wembanyama also had a huge sequence at the start of the fourth quarter that led to a 9-2 run for the Spurs. The Frenchman received an alley-oop from his assigned passer, placed a counter on Derik Queen, then planted a long-range shot.
Defensively, his impact was as significant as usual. If Jeremiah Fears liked to say he had none, that may no longer be the case.
Wemby finished the game with 18 points, 18 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 blocks and 1 steal at 8/19 shooting and 2/9 from distance. Spurs victory 126-119, despite 41 points from Trey Murphy III.
