SAN VITO AL TAGLIAMENTO – Tolmezzo Carnia’s remarkable undefeated streak came to an end this past Saturday as they suffered their first defeat of the season against Sanvitese, with a final score of 2-0. The absence of head coach Fabrizio Damiani, who was away due to family commitments, was felt by the squad.
The match, played under clear skies, was a tightly contested affair. Tolmezzo Carnia, often described as “orphaned” by key players, faced significant challenges.The team was notably without their regular goalkeeper Valent, a 2009-born player stepping in for this match, their central striker Zantoni, who has been unavailable for two consecutive games, and Luca Cargnelutti, who was on the bench but not fully fit to play. These absences undoubtedly impacted the team’s usual dynamic.
According to Tolmezzo Carnia’s coach Alessio Casali, the game was on track to end in a scoreless draw. however, a penalty decision in the second half, which Casali deemed “questionable,” broke the deadlock. He attributed the penalty to an individual defensive lapse. The second goal, scored in the 95th minute, was seen as adding a gloss to the scoreline that didn’t reflect the overall balance of play. Casali firmly believes that a 0-0 outcome would have been a fairer reflection of the ninety minutes. “Nothing happened, let’s move on, we aim to win again from the next race,” commented a resilient “Bacio” Damiani via phone, expressing his team’s determination to bounce back.
This result has significant implications for the league standings. Tolmezzo Carnia, previously at the top, has now been overtaken by Sanvitese and Rive D’Arcano Flaibano. They now sit third in the table, level on points with Sant’Andrea San Vito, who have a game in hand. The Carnici will look to regain their winning form when they host Rojanese from Trieste at the F.lli Ermano stadium on Saturday, November 22nd, at 6 PM.
