Teylingen Coach: Time to Step Up & Lead

After the seventh matchday, third division E-Teylingen has ended up in a position that requires a play-off competition at the end of the season for survival. On home ground, Alan Campfens’ team lost 0-3 to Groeneweg and there was nothing to criticize about the guests’ victory. Last season, the red-blacks, also at De Roodemolen, also lost significantly on the opening day (1-5) against the formation from Zevenhuizen.

The losing coach on the Sassenheim side was, as always, realistic in his analysis afterwards. “In the beginning my team was quite searching, but at a certain point we managed better. Yet we fell behind because our goalkeeper unknowingly made a mistake with a handed-in ball that made it 0-1. So we had to chase after that, but we hardly managed to create opportunities together.”

“That didn’t really work out well before the break, but that was also often the case after the break. A quite painful observation because we created opportunities in most of the matches we played and were also a match for the opponent. We were now simply paralyzed and could not make any progress on the whole. I do have to make a comment because we also had some bad luck. Mike van der Zon’s bet fell behind the goal line via the crossbar, but no point was made to the middle. That could have been a turning point. Then we tried to force things with substitutions, but that didn’t work either. In fact, they scored twice more in the final phase and we deservedly lost. All in all a disappointing afternoon and we will have to do something about this. The back must be straightened and we will have to show balls again from next week. I assume this was an isolated incident.”
