Strasbourg Shocks England: Crystal Palace Win

The Alsatians placed fifth in the Premier League standings this Thursday, during the fourth day of C4.

A great European Cup evening in Strasbourg. Very beautiful even. Trailing 0-1 at the start of the game, Strasbourg finally got the better of Crystal Palace (2-1) this Thursday, in their Meinau cauldron, for the fourth day of the Europa Conference League. FA Cup holders, the Eagles occupy fifth place in the Premier League standings. A prestigious success for Liam Rosenior’s players, second in the C4 standings with the same number of points (10) as Turkish leader Samsunspor, ahead on goal difference (+7 against +3).

The Alsatians won thanks to Emanuel Emegha (53rd) and Samir El Mourabet (77th), author of his first professional goal, while the Eagles took the advantage on a goal from Tyrick Mitchell (35th). They can seriously consider a direct qualification for the round of 16, before their next match in Aberdeen, Scotland, on December 11.

Mateta decisive

The Strasbourg players developed an interesting game during the first half hour, creating several situations, the most successful of which was a shot from Samir El Mourabet diverted for a corner by Palace goalkeeper Dean Hendersson (10th). The Eagles didn’t need many chances to score. After a first off-target shot from the Colombian Jefferson Lerma (24th), Tyrick Mitchell set the sights with a cross shot, well served by Jean-Philippe Mateta who played off a far too tender Lucas Hogsberg against the new French international (0-1, 35th).

In great difficulty, the young Dane Hogsberg, before giving way to Ben Chilwell (42nd), the former Palace player, immediately offered the break point (37th) to the Senegalese Ismaïla Sarr but the latter only found Penders’ post while the goal was empty. It was too much for Racing coach Liam Rosenior.

Miracles

In the second half, Strasbourg had the merit of hanging on and was rewarded by the equalizer from Emanuel Emegha, future Chelsea player next summer, ideally served by Daniel Moreira (1-1, 53rd). The Londoners once again missed the inevitable by hitting the crossbar after a new Alsatian offering, that of Ismael Doukouré (60th).

Miraculously still alive, Strasbourg then managed to surprise the English following a sumptuous free kick from Julio Enciso on the bar, victoriously taken over by El Mourabet (2-1, 77th). In the process, Mike Penders made an exceptional save against Yeremy Pino (75th), another miracle which allowed Strasbourg to achieve a prestigious victory against the Londoners.
