Slovakia FIFA Ranking: Spain Remains #1

Slovakia has climbed to 45th place in the latest FIFA world rankings, a one-spot improvement from their October position. This latest update reflects the team’s recent performances and sets the stage for crucial upcoming tournaments.

Spain continues to dominate the top of the rankings, showcasing their prowess by securing a spot in the upcoming World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico without a single loss. Following closely behind are argentina and France,holding onto their second and third positions respectively. The reigning world champions, who recently hosted the tournament in Qatar, are currently in second place.

Meanwhile, Italy has slipped out of the top ten, now sitting at 12th place. Their departure from the elite group has made way for Croatia, who have ascended into the top ten.

The most significant upward movement in this ranking cycle belongs to Malta, which has surged five places to currently occupy the 161st position.

Slovakia’s recent results have contributed to their ranking boost. In their November opener, they secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Northern Ireland in Košice, with the decisive goal coming in extra time. However,their final qualification match saw them face a tough challenge against Germany in Leipzig,where they ultimately fell 0-6. Despite the loss to Germany, the team managed to add 2.3 points to their overall ranking based on these two matches.

This updated FIFA ranking also solidifies the seeding for the European play-offs for the 2026 World Cup, scheduled for March 2026.The draw for these crucial matches is set to take place soon.

Italy finds itself in the first pot alongside Denmark, Turkey, and ukraine. Slovakia, on the other hand, will be in the second pot, grouped with Poland, Wales, and the Czech Republic. Their semi-final opponent in the play-offs will be drawn from a quartet of teams, with the Republic of Ireland currently leading that group at 59th in the FIFA rankings. The other potential opponents for Slovakia are Albania (63rd), Bosnia and Herzegovina (71st), and Kosovo, which has achieved its highest-ever ranking at 80th. The fourth pot includes Romania, Sweden, North Macedonia, and Northern Ireland.

Slovakia is slated to host their semi-final play-off match. To secure a berth in the World Cup, they will need to navigate through two play-off rounds.

The November rankings will also serve as the foundation for the draw of the expanded 48-team World Cup tournament. The host nations-the USA, Canada, and Mexico-will automatically be placed in the first pot, joined by the top nine-ranked teams globally. The draw for the World Cup groups is scheduled for Friday,December 5,in Washington D.C.
