In Riyadh, Siniakova was honored with a trophy at the WTA Finals. Seven years ago, the mixed Olympic champion in Paris ended the season as number one in doubles for the first time together with compatriot Barbora Krejcikova. Siniakova repeated this success in 2021, 2022 and 2024.
“It’s a very special feeling, it’s incredible for me and I’m just happy that I did it again,” said Siniakova at the ceremony in Riyadh. “This season has given me so many great memories and I’m just grateful to be able to lift this trophy again.”
There is also another historic achievement for the Czech: next week she will top the doubles rankings as world number one for the 169th time.
Only two tennis players have been more successful in the past. The South African Liezel Huber, including doubles champion at Wimbledon in 2005 and 2007, achieved this for 199 weeks. Navratilova also leads this statistic (237 weeks).
With another successful season next year, the reigning Australian Open champion could at least overtake Huber in this leaderboard. Her Czech compatriot, on the other hand, is still a little out of reach. At the WTA Finals, Siniakova is also in the semi-finals together with partner Taylor Townsend.
